This is a sweet book, yet felt aimed more at the parents out there than kids necessarily. It would be a good baby shower or graduation gift. I adored the cute POC little girl with natural hair who was the main character (in fact, the only character besides the animals we see in the whole story) as she tries to "mother" the little duckling she finds.

This book was given to me by a dear friend at just the right time... just as my oldest "ducklings" are using their wings to leave the nest. It is perfect for this moment in my life.

This seems like one of those books that's designed more to make the parent tear up than anything else. The illustrations are awesome -- Claire Kean has done work for Disney, and the movement and facial expressions are attention-grabbing and made my daughter giggle. I also liked the choice to illustrate the young protagonist as a black girl. The rhyming story deals with watching someone grow up, and seemed to go over my toddler's head, though, even as I sniffled a bit.
