Being someone who loves fairy tales of all kinds, I have to say this was just wonderful. There was nothing earth shattering about the story, nothing big happens, but it was just lovely and fun to listen to (I listened on audio). I would love to read this to my kids someday.

An imaginative adventure story for kids that served as inspiration for Tolkien.

I've been wanting to dive into this book and it's sequel for some time now. One of my all time favorite movies from my childhood was The Princess and the Goblin and somehow I always talked my folks into adding the VHS to the pile when we rented movies at out local Blockbuster. Yes, I'm that old.

Anyway, this was a charming and easy read that kept my interest. This is just one of those reads that make you happy. Except for Lottie. That woman did not make me happy. I think I disliked her more than the goblins. It was hard to get an idea of Irene's and Curdie's age. I always thought they were 9 and 10. 11 tops.

Can't wait to start book 2!

What a delightful story! It's such a different tone from most children's literature you find today and the story didn't always follow the typical conventions we see now, but I enjoyed it immensely. This was a wonderful introduction to the works of George MacDonald.

Good story. I think I would have enjoyed this one more 20 years ago.

A fun, classic story. I really enjoyed Curdie's little songs that he made up to scare the goblins!
