Hadn't read this since before the film released, and wow...this is still one of my favorite Star Wars books (and books in general). It's written like a true tragedy and has a impending sense of dread and underlying darkness that just creeps throughout the writing of this story. It reminds me that entire prequel era's changed a lot between pre-2008 TCW & now. It was a lot darker & "mature" back then. TCW also fundamentally changed & misunderstood Anakin's character...gonna reread more pre 2008 Clone Wars stuff now.

Stover brings to life version of the story that even the most tepid Star Wars fan could see buried in the awkwardness of the film.

The plot is more detailed and tense. The characters and their motivations have more depth. The themes are more resonant and impactful.

Aside from some pacing issues near the beginning, brief use of onomatopoeia that undercuts the tone, some silly nouns (transparisteel—or as you might know it, glass), and a lack of clear explanation as to why exactly Palpitine is not a suspect—it’s great and well-worth a read.

Beautifully written.
The entire book feels like the author is flexing his writing skills.

I think I’ve gotten out of my Star Wars phase cuz this was very hard to get myself to finish. It’s still so sad watching Anakin fall to the dark side.
I have to say, the narrator does not do a good Padme impression but that’s okay, it’s just comical.

This was better than the movie, adds so much depth. Love the way it's written.

I only didn't give it a perfect 5 because in regards to Padmé, there's one paragraph that didn't sit right with me. 😭

But it does work with my theory that Anakin kind of biwitched her through the force, unintentionaly.
