Kennedy Ryan is just not for me. Only reading this for book club. I thought Maxim and Lennix had zero chemistry, its pretty much all instalust. I thought Maxim's Antarctica expedition was ridiculous, there's no way anything he could have "researched" there would now make him a millionaire in renewal energy lol wtf. And Lennix being this half-Native American campaign manager "kingmaker" who is "so good" that she's asked to run Maxim's senator older brother's campaign - yea not believable either. It was just all too ridiculous. And that ending had me rolling my eyes.

Maxim looks identical to his evil oil-magnate father Warren Cade but Maxim is different! He's making his own way studying renewable energy. He meets Lennix at this oil pipeline protest where they both get arrested, but she's only 17 while he's ~23-24? He's about to enter grad school. 4 years pass. They meet again by chance but only 1 have night because he's about to go on this Antarctica expedition. He goes, he's in extreme danger and might have died but his father rescues him. This makes the news which is how Lennix finds out who he really is. She's mad at him because his father is everything she stands against. But they have "such a connection" that he refuses to give her up. He continues go after her, even moving to DC to be near her because at the same time she's asked by his brother to run his political campaign too. Things are sort of going well I guess? (I was zoning out) when at the end Lennix and her ex-bf Wallace(??) are kidnapped by masked people. I think they were in a foreign country or something at the time.

I really wanted to like this but her writing doesn’t resonate with me at all. I think I’d prefer the story if I went into it not expecting a romance.

I went into this book not knowing much but the author's note in beginning was enough to tell me I will respect the author's work anyway.

Let's start with the good :
• The writing style and the pacing are perfect.
• Viv and kimba❤️ Owen

Another romance series that I’m hoping will fill the hole that the Ravenhood series left in my heart.
I love Nix. Her dedication to herself is inspiring. And I love the intensity of their love. Fingers crossed book 2 isn’t a let down.
