This book has a little bit of mystery, romance and the supernatural. It was entertaining and would make a good vacation read. The ending was a bit obvious, but I’m not mad at it.

Similar to her last book, I struggled to get into it and then became obsessed.

If you are wanting to read Ricki Wilde, please read Seven Days in June first. I don’t want to spoil the why, so I won’t say it.

Overall this was a page turner that made me want to pick it back up when I wasn’t reading it to see what was next. However, there was a lull 75-100 pages before the end where I knew how it would wrap up and I just didn’t understand why there were so many pages left. Fortunately there were some loose ends that the author wanted to wrap up that I had forgotten about. I probably would have been upset if those pages were cut out completely.

A sweet story. Predictable ending after a certain point, but the premise, storyline, and character development were fun.

4.5/5 ⭐️ This book has been so surprisingly good! Taking significant references and inspiration from the Harlem Renaissance you are bouncing between present and past throughout the book. Constantly enthralled by the story, but also curious to see where the two time periods meet. Ricki is an infectious, high strung, passionate character. She wears her heart on her sleeve, but that heart is guarded and knows how to share just enough to move through life while also keeping her vulnerability to herself. Ezra is charming, witty, and reels you in and makes you want to learn more about him. Together they’re magic, literally in some instances. This book and Tia Williams does a really good job at blending fantasy/magic with romance in a way that surprised me. In all honesty I wasn’t a huge fan of Seven Days in June. It was a cute story but the writing wasn’t that easy for me to digest. However, these chapters have me sitting up in my bed wanting to know what’s next. What happens to Ricki and Ezra?
On another note, Ms. Della is the wise grandma everyone wants and she is fierce and loving in this story.
The words of Ms. Della ~ "To me, love is like listening to an album. Some people skip to their favorite songs and ignore the rest. Other people listen to the entire album over and over, until it's familiar and cherished and they know every note by heart. That's how Dr. Bennett and I loved each other. He was music I could listen to forever."
And that’s exactly what Ricki and Ezra found within each other. This book was so entertaining and such a great read. Definitely would recommend and read again.

Mild spoilers - I loved both Ricki and Ezra as characters, particularly Ricki. She was so relatable, so driven despite her family, and I just loved her. I'm not a fan of time travel romances, but this isn't quite that. I found the ending rather predictable and the resolution felt rushed. The epilogue did help wrap some things up which I liked. This had similar vibes to the Invisible Life of Addie Lauru, but with its own modern spin and magical realism. I had been expecting a strictly contemporary romance, which is what I think threw me off and made this less than a 5 🌟 I think it may actually be like a 3.75 for me, but I'm rounding up to 4 because I did genuinely like Ricki as a character
