Mary Kubica never fails to keep me invested and turning those pages!

There were twists that I did NOT see coming in this one.

Explores themes of marriage, mental illness, parenthood, and morality.

If you like a domestic thriller, this is for you!

The book was really slow for me until about the 85% mark. I was very annoyed that Sadie couldn’t ever find words. I know if someone were standing there telling me that a neighbor saw me and another woman fighting, I wouldn’t be saying “what could I say?” Well for one thing, you can say you didn’t do it. Sadie was at a loss for words way too much. Though, I suppose after the 85% mark, it could make more sense to some. I was ready to give this book 2-3 stars for the most part. Then it got interesting and I was going to bump it up to 4 stars, for the thing I didn’t see coming. But then the author ruined it by saying something to the effect of “people used to dump their trash into this part of the ocean, and the sea recycled it and gave it back as sand”. (Audiobook, going from memory, not the exact words I’m sure.). What the heck kind of nonsense is that to be added? It didn’t add to the story at all. Please don’t encourage people to dump their crap into the water.

This is a good story. Kept me invested even though I guessed early on one of the twists but the second one I didn’t see coming. I would definitely recommend this book.

Engaging but I just couldn’t accept this eye-rolling psychological thriller.

Mary Kubica never disappoints! Just when you think you have figured it all out the plot twists and sends the entire novel n a different direction! Well worth the wait for this to be released!

The middle was a bit slow but the ending was worth sticking it out.

I really enjoyed this book. While some reviewers felt they had it all together from the beginning, I had some suspicions but I wasn’t entirely accurate.

Following the tragic suicide of his sister, Will, his wife Sadie and their boys Otto and Tate, move from Chicago to Maine having inherited his sister’s home and custody of his niece.

The tale is mostly told from Sadie’s POV with a few chapters dedicated to Camille and a little girl named Mouse. Near the climax, we see Will’s POV and that’s where the real twist begins.

I love psychological thrillers, especially ones that also deal with mental health disorders. I know some didn’t like this book but I did.

What a phenomenal read - I cannot wait for the Netflix movie of this book. With each chapter my brain was swirling trying to sort out who I though was guilty. But dang, the outcome was crazier than I thought. I sensed Will’s cocky, manipulative tone about halfway through, but was still surprised when the truth came out. What frustrated me is that he was murdered at the end... in the context of the story it made the most sense but I felt it was the easy way out.
Overall this was a spectacular read and I highly recommend it!
