At first I couldn't get into this book and kept urging myself to read it, but as I went along I actually really started to enjoy it. The wording and scenery is like a Grimm fairy tale.
A very different YA dystopian novel but enjoyable none-the-less.
I think if I could give this 3.5 stars that would be a better fit.
The ending is done rather quickly and much too smoothly for all of the buildup, so that was a little disappointing, but it also made the book the perfect length and a quick read.

Despite the large, informative type here, I did not know this book was Vol 1 & 2 together. I just assumed it was a Vol 3 book and ordered happily. Still got a chance to run through it quickly - a little refresher never hurts, right? I think I'd read just about anything by Alice Hoffman...

I loved this unique book! It was very thought provoking especially about gossip and how untrue it can be. It’s important to hear others stories to know why they are the way they are and not to judge.

An unusual way of telling a story, kind of dreamlike and magical, but also a little trite. Very fairytale.

Reminded me why I love Alice Hoffman so much- she crafts beautiful fairy tales for adults. This one had it all; loss of family, love, witches, spells and the constant reminder that things are not always what they seem. Most important was the message "be careful what you go looking for, because you might find it." A beautiful, quick read.
