This was a solid omegaverse that had a really good amount of alpha/omega dynamics, omegas struggling with being controlled and used, and romance!
The FMC and MMC has great chemistry and I loved their background and their story as it evolves.
This works very much is an alphas rule, omegas are used and I loved seeing the omega cold into herself and her power and also be beloved by her alpha!

I've classed this as dark because the universe is dark. The hero while dangerous and deadly treats the heroine well.

Ruthless King
Ruthless Warlords 1
By: Alison Aimes
Narrated by: Jason Clarke, Stella Hunter

What a wonderful surprise! I am not normally the listener of Omegaverse stories, but this one was recommended and thought I would give it a try, and I am so glad I did! Alison Aimes is a talented author, and she weaves a story of Alpha and Omega with a suspenseful mystery! Dahlia is given to Nikolai, the most brutal crime lord in the galaxy as payment for a debt. But there is much more to their story. This is not the first time they have met, nor is it a surprise they are together. There is bad blood between families, and Dahlia has no intention of making life easy. Will Nikolai be able to tame his new Omega? Will her power help him seek the revenge he needs? And when the truth comes out, will their relationship be able to take it? I loved it! Nikolai is such the alpha male, always in charge, but his vulnerability is such a refreshing change when he lets his guard down. Dahlia is much stronger than she appears, and I love her take charge attitude. She sits still for nothing and plays a pivotal role in Nikolai's life. Suspense, deceit, surprise, love, it's all here in this wonderful listen. Looking forward to book 2!

Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter give us this treat as they tell us the story. It's characters have a lot of depth, and each one brings it to the surface. Jason Clarke as Nikolai flexes those alpha muscles with a voice that is commanding, yet loving. Stella Hunter as Dahlia brings out the stubborn, independent attitude that is inherently Dahlia. I loved these two together, it's a wonderful listen!

This was a phenomenal paranormal romantic suspense book. The author has created a world rich in detail, but simple enough to quickly get engaged in the captivating story. This was my first book the author, but I already can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

The alpha, beta and omega roles in this universe are clearly defined. Nikolai is a powerful alpha and Dahlia is an omega who has been treated as a possession. The relationship between these two main characters was complex and nuanced, and ever changing. While they had more than their share of misunderstandings and hurt feelings, the author kept their story progressing without using forced separations as a plot point.

This was one of the best romances I’ve read, never mind paranormal romance. The suspenseful elements were slowly woven into the story, but became more taunt in the last half of the story. While I suspected part of what happened, I was still surprised and delighted with how this book ended. It does not have a cliffhanger, but their is still story left to tell in future books about Nikolai’s siblings.

This is definitely an author I will follow and anticipate future books to read, especially in this series! I stayed up much later than I should have to finish this book, and then stayed up even later to read the awesome bonus chapter/epilogue.

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily and happily leaving a review.
