This book really resonated with me. The depiction of mental illness was so vivid and accurate. It captured what it is like to struggle and still be loved, and what it is like to love someone who struggles so much. I felt like I had a lump in my throat for the last 20% of the book. I so, so badly wanted Martha to get what she wanted and to repair her relationships. The sister relationship was beautiful and one of my favorite parts of the book. The family was so dysfunctional and so close and so supportive and so horrible to one another. It was wonderful.

Marcou

I enjoyed this but I did find the ending slightly contrived after what felt like quite an honest portrayal of poor mental health. Not that the character didn’t deserve a happy ending (and I usually prefer one!), it just felt like maybe it would have been more in keeping with the theme with the book if it wasn’t. Still 4 stars though!

One of the healthiest books about mental health I’ve ever read. Highly relatable & very human - refreshing to read a book from the perspective of a woman I could feel connected to in different ways.
