Kind of disappointing in my charlie bone agenda. I realized that about one large event happens per book, but they uncommonly drag me with them.

Trying to show some self-control and not drive to the library to pick up number eight! This book definitely felt like an installment, not satisfying in and of itself, so I'm ready to move on to the next one.

At least not everything was resolved in this book and some things were left for the next one. The characters still do things that people would never do, the plot is still overly predictable, but it feels like they're getting better as they go. Since there's only one left, they probably aren't ever going to be great, but they're definitely okay.

Good book, with Charlie having to battle the evil sorcerer Harken, a.k.a. The Shadow

I like this series. Since it is for grade-schoolers book it is a quick read and it has some magic elements although the world of Charlie Bone is grounded more in our world than say a Harry Potter world. I do think the fight against the dark-side (can't resist a little Star Wars reference) is more daunting and scary in the Charlie Bone books than the Harry Potter series. Also, each Charlie Bone book is left wide open at the end for the next book in the series--that is a little unsettling for me. I'm going to have a hard time waiting for the last one in the series. (Sept 2009)

8/7/16 - Eh. I read this to Em as bedtime reading. Sadly it will be the last one because she doesn't want me to read to her at bed time any more. :( Anyway, this one bored me.

7/7/12 - My Little is reading these and she wanted me to get through the series so I'd be done by the time she gets there. So, I read number 7. I'm going to say that this was my least favorite of the series. I don't get the fact that sometimes the magic is something everyone knows about and sometimes it's not. I don't buy that Charlie's parents would go off and leave him for so long when his dad's just got back. I don't get why Maisie's so reluctant to believe Charlie about anything magical when she's seen it for herself. And I don't get why Ben's such a jerk ALL THE TIME. So, yeah.

I had hoped that this book would have redeemed this series but it didn’t seem to. The ending was abrupt and left me wondering so much. What about Billy? What happened to Tancred? What about Titiana Tilpin or Dagbert? I wish there was more to answer these questions.
