A teenage girl believes a boy she met, a juvenile runaway is innocent. He did not kill his father. The premise of Shutter is promising, albeit the questionable "harbouring a fugitive" scenario, and the protagonist' s unwavering trust towards a murder suspect. I was quite intrigued by the storyline, though the subplots of Day's life in school and with her friends were not very engaging, and I would have preferred more of it being weaved into her investigation. Day mainly worked on her own, with some help from murder suspect Julian Roman himself. Still, I like how relentless Day is in trying to rediscover the case, and to uphold justice for someone whom she believed was wronged. It is a good twist of a whodunnit, although it deviated a bit with some high school drama. The drama is mild, focusing more on Day's quest to save Julian, which is something I like very much about this story.

I didn’t think I was going to like this book but I started it one day while I was cooking and before I knew it I was already halfway done with the book. It’s a fast flowing book with a wonderful storyline. Good book to pass the time.

The main character is so thirsty that she’s perfectly cool with her love interest, other main character, killing his father, however abusive he was, he lied about it, he probably could have gotten off had he told the truth and said what actually happened. For being a supposed genius, he’s a dumbass.

3 and a 1/2 stars for me.

Now I understand why people rated this book a 3....The ending sucked! But what did I tell you? I told you there was going to be a major twist. I don't know, I feel like Laurie Faria Stolarz had a good book and had so much potential to make a better ending but instead she took the easy way out. Don't get me wrong I loved the characters and the plot line but I was dissapointed in the ending.

i kinda really hated it. the relationship between Day and Julian was stupid. the whole figuring out the case was boring. and the ending was horrible, like i have no idea what actually happens next. what do they do? are they dating? like it’s all stupid and i just didn’t really care about anything except for the satisfaction of finding out who it was. and the ending was SO anticlimactic. would not recommend to anyone i actually like.

ARC provided by Disney-Hyperion and NetGalley

I'm loving this trend of smart mystery/thriller/detective novels in YA. They are perhaps (at times) a little tame for adult thriller fans but they are a wonderful introduction to the style that won't have parents threatening to burn the book if a teacher recommends it.

This was not the most original of stories but the investigative moments were interesting and there were enough twists and turns to keep the momentum going. I had a suspicion as to the conclusion fairly early in the book but it didn't take away from the story in any way and there were moments that made me doubt that feeling. Really, that is all that you can ask for in this type of book.

So I just finished Shutter by Laurie Faria Stolarz.
It was a great mysterious quick read- perfect for October.

I have never read Laurie's work before, and this was a great introduction into her work.

Julian escaped from a Juvinile Detention center, suspected for murdering his parents. Day crosses paths with Julian and is determined to dig deeper and learn the facts about his case.

Did he murder his parents?

Find out if Julian is innocent in the suspected murder and don't forget to pick up the book when it is released October 18, 2016!!
