I loved this book - it reminded me of my neighborhood growing up. I wish my kids could have the same experience !

I really loved this book. It was one of the first I read for my Fredonia Book Club and it has stuck with me. When people ask me for a favorite title, this one is always one of the first to come to mind.

I enjoyed this book. It was a fairly simple, if emotionally heavy, read. The characters were all pretty enjoyable, as well as their relationships. I thought the way the author took us throughout the years and decades of their friendships with one another was well done. It was easy to feel both sorrow and joy for them as they experienced life’s ups and downs.

Some of the dialogue was a little awkward/stilted. The POV changes were really frustrating and definitely my least favorite part of the book. Not only did we switch narrators but we also switched from first person to third person and I found it to be nothing but disruptive to the story and downright annoying. The ending was fairly predictable and in a way that I wasn’t a huge fan of. It didn’t feel quite so earned. Overall I’m fairly split on this and it’s just one of those middle of the road books for this year.

What an amazing book about friendships, hardships, and family. I laughed, I cried, and repeated the two over and over. Truly a must read book for anyone who believes in the power of friends and family.

Three stars here isn't an insult - this was an entertaining, enjoyable read about five women in a book club through the 50's and forward. I found the outlooks on motherhood enjoyable, though at times I wished for a sole voice that was not entirely focused on her children.
