I feel like a failure. Everyone raves about this book and I can sort of see why. For grim-dark high fantasy, it's written well, with believable characters and decent pacing. I can't explain why I struggled to read it. Every night, I'd read two chapters - usually matching the two P.O.V.s. but I never felt like reading more. I guess it simply missed the mark for me.

I'm giving up since I'd normally have read three or four books in the time I've given to this struggle.

I’m sad to say I was bored through almost the entire first half of this book. And stuff *happens* so I don’t have a good reason why I was bored. I’m not as familiar with Norse folklore so the world building and creatures were hard to picture (even with descriptions, I was googling a lot). Also, I think I had a hard time connecting with all the main 3 POVs. Varg was the most interesting because he was the closest to “magical” for me, which is my reading comfort zone. The very last page was pretty interesting with all the story lines mingling, but I don’t think that’s enough for me to want to read book 2.
