I loved all the twists and turns of this book. I loved the relationship between Maud and Susan and their separate journeys to get to how they ended up. Which I loved.

And I very much dug what happened to Gentleman.

This shows a lot of the grit and lawlessness of London, the uncaring and unscrupulous actions of care givers, often times servants and men in general. The story moved well throughout and I was curious as to how things would turn out from beginning to end. Good read.

I liked this a lot more than Tipping the Velvet and The Paying Guests. Very emotional, harrowing, and atmospheric. Bless Sarah Waters for being the lesbian Charles Dickens the world needs

I liked the plot twists, but overall a slow read. I didn't feel for the characters at all, until the last part of the book.. barely.

The book didn't move much. I wasn't a huge fan of getting overlapping time periods from different perspectives either. The wanting is so strong and there's just not a lot of relief. The ending is rushed. Honestly would not recommend or read another book like this one
