This audiobook was fun! I really wish that the story had stuck with a realistic storyline as opposed to going mystical/mythical it made this book lose its shine for me. Because initially I was LOVING all the serial Killer talk and jargon! Because I love that sort of talk and discussion. #noshameinmyserialkillerlikinggame they are just really interesting humans. Because this book took an unexpected and not favorable turn I have to give it 3/5 stars. I want to read more Dan Wells and I wanna know if the other books in this series are all mystical or if he goes for more realism in the others!

I wanted to read this book because of my fascination with serial killers and the intriguing slant in the main character's relationship with himself.
While reading, I was put off by Wells' writing style. It came off as juvenile in that he writes as though he doesn't trust his readers to figure out fairly obvious things for themselves. He posts many unnecessary/rhetorical questions that the reader is (hopefully, or rather should be) already wondering about on her own. It's muddled in redundancy.
All of this I could have put aside, and tried to, for the sake of the still intriguing concept and somewhat likable main character. However, a few more than 100 pages in, it took an unforgivable turn for the worse. I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read it yet and may still want to, so I will spare you any sort of real detail. Suffice it to say that it became very obvious fairly quickly that this book wasn't one I would care for in the slightest. I put it down without finishing it, which is something I usually have a hard time doing, but it was fairly easy with this one.

I knew i would love this book, and boy, did i ?! I am not a serial killer draws you in, its captivating almost hypnotising and is dark, but good dark, and its funny. Unbelievably funny, i don't know how Dan did it, this read was amazing. If your a fan of the TV show Dexter you'll love this book. I think the MC being fifteen makes it a whole lot more likeable (in my case loveable). It sounds strange to say you love a sociopath, but this story makes its very hard not to. From the start I knew i'd like John, and all through the book i t got easier to do just that.

I don't want to give anything away, because i don't think i can. I read the reviews before reading this and lets just say after reading this book, i don't the reviews one bit. Its a unique and brilliant read that i don't think anyone can break down into a few words to explain it away. Its just one you have to pick up and love or not.

(Bits i loved the most, the therapy sessions with Dr, Neblin, and the conversations with Max.)

Ok onto the 2nd book.

P.S the author's acknowledgement is hilarious.

If you want to read from the point of view of a protagonist who lacks empathy and has a unique sense of the world, then I would suggest checking this book out. Psychologically, it's a great character study. As for the mystery, it is simple enough for one to put the pieces of the puzzle together and figure out some things before John does:
Spoiler  for example, Crowley's weakness is very obviously his wife, and the last victim was clearly going to be Neblin.

Aside from predictability, I did enjoy this book. The characters felt a bit flat in the beggining, but they continued to gain depth as the book went on, specially April, John's mother, as well as Lauren. Neblin and April have to be my favourites. And John...he is definitely a great character study, as I explained briefly before. This makes for an excellent debut novel, leaving you with open ended questions that will most likely be resolved in future installments of the John Cleaver saga. I think there are 6 books in this series, so I'm looking forward to continuing this weird, groutesque journey.

Spoiler I just hope he doesn't end up with Brooke, she is much better off without John lmao.

Creo que nunca había leído un libro como este.
Siendo también una friki con el tema de lo paranormal, asesinos seriales y casos de ese tipo (lo digo por qué me encanta ver videos sobre ese tipo de cosas
