I've heard so much praise for this book, but it read like fanfiction to me? There was too much conversation between the love interests and not much plot development. Maybe it's unfair to compare it with books that were written a decade after it was, but I'll still give the second book a try.

But without the Elven ears!!
Okay, so many of you know that I am so in love with C.L. Wilson's The Winter King ! I was quite excited for this book because it was by the same author but hesitant at the same time because it will feature the same couple throughout the 5 book series. But, once starting it, I was trust into a world of the fey, magic, mages and a supposedly epic tale of soul mates. I get that this was only the first book but MAN! Nothing happened. I get it, Ms. Wilson is going for the slow burn for their relationship but COME ON!

Everyone knows I'm so against the whole insta-love thing. Well this one has that in spades! I get that Rain and Ellysetta are truemates and that they share a soul but really? REALLY? He is still so in love with his wife that died 1000 years ago ( another trope I don't like is when a character's previous partner dies) and I would think that he would have some reservations with Ellysetta. But, NOPE! He just went in head on and needs to be with her. I would think he would just be with her out of necessity since he would die without her and then grow to love her...I don't know....I needed some angst...

And Ellysetta! Please tell me she grows...like a lot??? She was a little too soft for my liking. She had no backbone..well she tried to talk back but it didn't work most of the time. And
Spoiler when she questioned their relationship and the depth of his love for his previous wife I thought that we'd get somewhere but a big fat NO!

I liked that we know have a known villain and Rain knows somethings about her. Part of the reason I'm not in love with it is that C.L. Wilson just threw us into this world and gave us too much information at one time..I felt swamped and confused sometimes but I pushed through because so many people love this series. I will try out the second one just to see if I grow to like the characters. I do like Bel however! I can't wait for his story!

Truly not bad, I just didn’t care & didn’t feel like continuing to make myself read it. I think the world building & setup are great, but I’m really not up for getting into a 5 book series right now. I also didn’t love all the different POVs. I can see why others love it though.

This book is something. It made me forget why I needed to sleep at 3am in the morning. I can say that is an excellent choice of reading fot the fans of "A Court of Thorns and Roses" series by Sarah J. Maas.
