I thought this book was pretty good but I wanted more time spent on developing the romance between Oliver and Callum.

It was a cute story but I wasn't obsessed with it the way I have been with other romance books.

This is a cross between Boyfriend Material and Red, White, and Royal Blue. What happens when Callum, a prince, raised out of the spot light in California becomes the heir to the British throne in the blink of an eye? Well he's a mess. Then he meets Oliver, the prime minister. This is a slow burn of a romance. With Callum possibly being neurodivergent and demisexual. Oliver is gay and divorced. They develop a friendship that turns into more. I will say this is mid-spicy when it comes to romance. Little to no fade to black when it comes to spicy stuff.

The only thing I didn't like was the ending. It was too dramatic for me, but the epilogue makes up for it.

Very similar to Red White and Royal Blue, but it develops its own plot and twists. The main characters are very loveable and have emotional depth.

I created a BookSirens account and this book immediately caught my eye: a royal romance, a hidden relationship, fish out of water, mutual pining, funny, an American and a Brit. But I was worried. I loved Red, White, and Royal Blue, and have read several books described as "the next RWRB" that... weren't. This, however, is. It's funny, but very touching. There's mutual pining and UST, but the author leans into that trope and really works it. If you want a well-written, trope-filled, funny book where a fish out of water learns to be who he was born to be, give this a try.

I loved this book, it's a wonderful romance story! Both Callum anf Oliver where such lovable characters and their friendship and romance very believable. The writing style was fun, and the dual POV well written with the different voices of the two characters. Callum is a wonderful character, and I loved how he was interested in everything and happy to talk and learn about new topics. I have no idea how realistic this storyline is, but I found it well done with all the discussions about politics and royalty.

There was only one thing that bothered me, and that was how the plot twist in the end was handled.

I'm fine with this person being the traitor, but overall it could have been built up better and the way it is written does not send a good message in my opinion. Over the whole book, injustices like poverty, entitled royals, injustice against LGBTQ+ people, colonialism and racism are addressed and discussed. The one that is not really discussed is gender inequality and misogyny. It is only squeezed into one sentence, when Amelia explains why she did what she did. In the next moment she is arrested for planned murder, so this very much plays into the storyline of feminic women being crazy and dangerous. I think this could be improved by introducing these topics before in the story, and show that the main characters also have this as a worry and on their agenda when talking about what to do about all the gender injustices. Or talk about it more after what happens with Amelia.

But overall I really loved the story so if you like queer contemporary romances with a royal character, go read this book!
