Too Prosey. And Too Long. Was reading it to prepare for the show but the show deviates enough that it wasn’t worth it. Also my goal is to read 100 books this year and because the book is too slow, it is killing all my reading time

I've read this book a few times over the decades and I always found it enjoyable. This time around, I just couldn't continue. The incestuous relations were quite disturbing to me. I don't know why they didn't bother me before. But I am now taking this off my favorite book list. I can't see myself picking it up again.

Such a good first book to the series. So different from any other fantasy writer out there. Anne Rice has a style that is all her own, and it is wonderful in the older books of hers.

This was an... Unusual book. I can't decide if I, ultimately, enjoyed it or not. There was SO MUCH backstory and history that it felt really bogged down. And quite a bit of unnecessary (to me) description.

I guess my reaction is: 🤷‍♀️ ok.

Stalled out halfway through because it got too bogged down in details and lost the magic that the first third or so of the book had.
SpoilerSpecifically, a third of the book should not be taken up by the files of the Mayfair Witches if they aren't fun to read...

It wasn’t interesting enough for me to contine for 930 pages after the first 30 pages.
