Very emotional. Really enjoyable straightforward yet descriptive writing style. Not only does it cover mythological content, it also has a feel of a myth with it's hard-learned lessons. Characters are interesting and well described but feel like they serve to push the plot forward more than be themselves, but I also think this more static character development is what this story requires. Even so, I felt emotionally invested in the characters due to the playful written descriptions of romance.

If you cry easily, bring a box of tissues with this book. Madeline Miller does not hold back with her poetic writing and gut-wrenching imagery. There are times when you want to cringe,
Spoilerespecially during bloody fights, medical scenes, the plague, and almost anything related to a woman character.
But when judging the book as a romance, there is no doubt that Miller did a good job portraying the highs and lows of Achilles and Patroclus' relationship. Amazing story, through and through.

i think that this book is often regarded as sad but i found the ending (the *actual* ending, the last page) to be incredibly relieving and hope-inspiring!! a beautiful book

Not much of a romance reader so wasn't sure if I could get into this one, but I really enjoyed this! Though some parts were a bit slow paced, the characters were compelling enough to make it interesting and the writing itself kept me mostly engaged.

Extremly good book. Even while knowing the myth, i could still get immersed within the story and feel it in my heart. I had alot of emotions and avsolutely loved the book. It is a classic greek myth involving
Spoiler gods, hubris, known figures, tragedy and prophesies
while still feeling modern and fresh. I liked that you can start reading without knowing the myths or characters and still enjoy it because of the amazing and natural explainations

Okay. The ending of this book was incredibly touching, and i loved how the character dynamics changed throughout and you really felt like the characters were growing up, however, it took me AGES to get through all of this thing. It was iNCREDIBLY slow paced for the first like two thirds and then in the last portion of the book it suddenly went crazy fast and ten years passed in the space of a few chapters??? despite this, there is practically no plot during most of this book. I LOVED I THOUGH. the imagery throughout the book is incredible. I loved the relationship between Patroclus and Briseis and actually felt like (SPOILERS!!!) she just randomly died way too abruptly and she deserved way more.
