3 Stars!

"Here is your god."

I went into this book thinking it was going to be about a female warrior who was going to have to venture out on her own (with hopefully no romance involved), and defeat a God.
That was partially what happened, but instead with a lot of thrown in, unneeded insta-love (and we all know how much I hate insta-love).

At first I wasn't a huge fan of this book. The romance was unneeded and I thought the villain/god in the story was very underwhelming and not very intimidating. Although the more I got closer to the end, and once I finished it, I liked it more than I originally thought I did. The challenges the three faces together made it so I wasn't bored throughout the book, and there weren't any parts in the book that I recall that dragged on and made me want to put it down.

The best part of this entire book, the BEST boi in this story was Iric. Without him, I don't know if I'd enjoy it half as much. He is adorable and a jerk and I LOVE him <3 (and the fact that he has a guy waiting for him back home just adds a bit of icing on the cake).
This book is almost half a star more just for Iric honestly because he saved it for me (platonic friendships need to be more apparent in YA books!).

So from reading the description and perhaps the first 25 pages, it feels like it's supposed to Vikings and maybe a bit of Nose mythology. Well, it's not. It's obviously borrowed a lot from that, but made it less interesting.

I felt as though this book really struggled to get it's feel. It makes it seem like it's in the past, but the way the characters all interact was very modern, especially the way they speak. It's very jarring. Also, none of the characters stood out for me.

For what it's worth, it's not awful, it just didn't live up to what I expected or wanted.

This book was wonderful. Fantasy creatures, loyalty, bravery sacrifice, love. It had it all!

More like 3.5

It's weird how I GREW UP on fantasy but have kind of grown out of it where my leisure reading is concerned. I did like this one I just didn't LURV it. It had a great female protagonist, and some progressive commentary, which is what saved it for me.

I enjoyed this story but the writing style could be improved.

Definitely on the younger end of young adult. I didn't feel like the "villain" in this story was much of a threat. I didn't feel any chemistry in the romance that is presented in this book.

But I did think this was a really fun and easy read! And a great standalone fantasy.

“Not everyone knows how to love the right way.”

“You may know what is best for you, but you have no right to say what is best for someone else. Iric has his own beliefs. Don't try to take those away from him.”
