After the controversy surrounding the release of this book, I felt it important to read. Surprisingly it is not entirely unsympathetic to Mr. Trump, but as much or more an indictment of Donald's father Fred. It is interesting as a point of view from a biographical perspective, granted one of a family member who it could be argued has a grudge. It's not nearly as salacious a summer read as I had anticipated, but we always have the Steele dossier for that. The writing is palatable, and it is only towards the end that I felt it become a bit repetitious. The epilogue seems to have been written from a somewhat more fixed perspective, could it be to satisfy a political narrative suggested by the editors? Or was it written after the administration began pushing back on the release of the book?

Terrifying to learn what made Donald Trump what he is, but also, heartbreaking in a way.

Utterly fascinating. I binged this over the course of a day. And if you (like me) consume your books in audiobook format, Mary Trump is an excellent narrator in addition to her writing skill.

This was a captivating family history that includes MT’s psychological insights into a number of family members.

I loathe Donald Trump as a person and a president, but listening to his upbringing, his personality (and the cult he’s created around it) make a lot more sense. It’s also an excellent argument that *everyone* needs (and is improved by) therapy. I can’t even imagine how different history would be if Fred Trump (or at least his kids) had had a therapist.

There’s a ton to take away from this book on a variety of fronts and I’m sure I’ll read it again in the future so I can focus on aspects that I may have missed initially.

Really well done.

The author’s expertise in clinical psychology, as well as her experience of being a Trump, gives us a well told explanation with plentry of stories about our current President, his parents and siblings. None of it is surprising, yet it is somehow still shocking. The family, as a whole, is cruel, crass, crude and completely crooked. One can see how and why the man who is President is such a disaster for this country.

I struggle with where to rate this one so I'm going with 3. This book certainly didn't change my opinion of DT at all. I guess it helped to see why he is the way he is with the trash he had raising him. Part of me is a little bit empathetic to that and the other part says that's really no excuse once you're an adult you make your own decisions and can rise above. There are many ppl in this world that had the same type of childhood or even worse and they're not at all like DT. So yeah ._. glad I'm done with that one.

Wowowowow this book had SO much to say. So many explanations as to how trump is the nastiest man alive. Power to Mary Trump for her story.

This is a fascinating read, it won't transform your perspective of the man if you've followed a variety of news sources over the past few years, but it is interest to know where a lot of his worst traits and attitudes came from.
There is a lot here I felt I already knew, particularly about Trump's desire to sell himself as a self made man despite literal mountains of evidence to the contrary, but there are several other forgotten stories that it's worthwhile to understand.
A significant read, especially in the current climate.
