I really wish I could have gotten more into this story but found it lacking. I didn't really care for the format either. I spent a lot of time reading confusing pieces that were suppose to be like military communications, but the effect made the story drag. I love Red Queen and this was neat to read but not a necessity for enjoying the series.

This novella on the back story of Farley was pretty useless and incredibly boring.

I was indeed curious about Farley's background.  And I got more than I bargained for with this mystery, and Shade's!

This novella centers around Captain Farley and the events leading up to her meeting with Mare. The messages to and from command can be hard to understand, and I have to admit I'm not even sure what the mission was about. This story does give the reader a bit more of the backstory on Shade though. I found [b:Queen Song|25005214|Queen Song (Red Queen, #0.1)|Victoria Aveyard|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1437677533s/25005214.jpg|44676143] to be the stronger of the two novellas.

This was so boring.

Firstly, since we knew Shade died it felt so pointless to read about him, since it added nothing to the story. Not even on a character depth perspective.

Lastly, the part where the plans and strategies were being talked about was not interesting to me. I even skimmed through a couple of pages because I was utterly bored.

The only reason I didn't gave it one star is because I do enjoy Victoria Aveyard's writing.
