Read it after the final empire not before. It’s just a short story but it gives you abit more insight on Kelsier.

1st read: Kelsier!!! I'm so glad to have read this and to revisit a place that I love so much.

Brandon Sanderson explains in the Arcanum Unbounded book why he wrote this short story and why it was quick, to the point and focused mainly on the world and the magic system which I think helped me appreciate this little story even more.

2nd read: Same rating both times round. I love Brandon Sandersons Postscripts in Arcanum Unbounded, it feels personal and helps us feel more connected to him not only as an author but as a person who has a lot of love and passion for his hobbies & his work of course. I'm obsessed with this being a starter setting for an RPG.

It was an enjoyable read but he's definitely got better short stories; The Emperor's Soul, Secret History & The Hope of Elantris being my favourites.

Also I think I've lost a bit of love for Kelsier, I adored him when I read Mistborn Era 1 but the more he gets mentioned the less interested I feel about him which is unfortunate.

I liked this story!! I love Kelsier and this has a bit of an origin story vibe.

Short fun story about Kelsier and the man who trained him.

I would finish the first era trilogy before reading this. You could read it before or after Final Empire, but in my opinion, do it after Hero of Ascension you’ll appreciate it much better that way.

Interesting backstory, would make more sense if you finished book 3 of the original trilogy, but interesting nonetheless.
