This was a super quick, super cute read! Sweet romance, pretty run of the mill. There was fake dating and honestly that’s all I need in my life so 🤷🏻‍♀️

A lovely little romance, with fade to black minimal spice.  I found this book while searching for lessons in chemistry, and while this book is different, it’s the title that caught my eye.  Really glad I listened to this love story of Jeremy and Melody.

It was fine. Easy to read but by the time the romance happened, I was bored. Not enough tech stuff for a main character who worked in IT.

This book actually had a lot of potential. To start with, the female protagonist is an IT engineer - she's not an interior designer, does not own a cupcake shop, does not work at a quirky-but-almost-bankrupt bookshop, and is not the assistant to a horrible boss. Not that there is anything wrong with these jobs (except the one with the horrible boss I guess) but it feels like if you're the heroine of an NA/chicklit book, those are your only options. I also loved that the book portrayed not only the development of the romance, but also the development of Melody's friendships as she meets more people in LA. And check this - the love interest has a girlfriend at the start of the book and she is not a total bitch! she actually befriends Melody! and there is absolutely no slut-shaming, no girl-hating at all!! If you're not familiar with the NA genre, let me let you that this is the equivalent of spotting a unicorn in your back garden. Plus, Melody is actually very cool.

Now on the not-so-great things. Jeremy has to be the blandest, most insipid male protagonist I've read in forever. I get that the author was trying to show his transition from bad boy to nice guy, but there's nice and there's Boring with capital B. Plus the drama. You expect a reasonable amount of drama in these books, but here there are just random side stories showing up that actually never lead to anything, so rather than adding tension to the story, they just made me roll my eyes a lot. But the thing that really, really bothered me was
Spoilerall the cheating
. This is actually a pet peeve of mine, so maybe it won't be that much of an issue to other readers, but for me it just ruined a book that otherwise I was enjoying a lot.

The rest of the books in the series have less than stellar reviews, so I'm just going to stop here, but this one is actually very recommendable if you're in need of some popcorn.

I will be devouring this series, I can already tell.

I do wish there was more STEM related stuff throughout the book though.
