2.5 stars— I didn’t like this as much as I hoped! I had high hopes for a novel that starts with a Heathers quote but it just reminded me of how bleak LA and influencer culture are. I obviously love my Ingrid Goes West kind of books but Exalted fell short of that. Dawn is extremely (extremely) unlikeable. I understand that she is essential and not supposed to have the readers support but the way she— as a lesbian— dogged on every other lesbian was just tiring and frankly annoying. Emily was also an exhausting character— though I enjoyed her appreciation Winona Ryder. I understand and love satire— but this was just tired.

The twist was funny but predictable? Idk maybe this is mor enjoyed in the summer. It wasn’t for me.

I have read quite a few novels that try to capture that nihilistic millennial vibe, and none of them have achieved it as well as this one. The two main characters are awful but relatable and it’s just so engaging to love and hate them at the same time. I’m excited to check out Dorn’s other work and I can expect her to be a must buy author for me.

This was so much fun! I figured out the twist before it hit, but it was so satisfying (and fiendish) to be right! I wanted to see how the story played out. 100% invested in everyone!
