This book was a little bit overrated in my opinion. I was sad but i didnt bawl like i expected . I am going to read the ending again but what can i say this must have been difficult to write and i give the author credit for that :)

The book centers the nazi experience in the holocaust and removes the blame from the children present. I have hear many Jews explain how this sort of storyline is harmful and does not manage to teach about the holocaust and instead deflects blame and teaches children that they are too young and stupid to a) understand what’s going on, and b) be part of the problem. The book spreads general misinformation and removes the grief and suffering of Jews from the story which is incredibly problematic.

I read this in my English class and even for a group of somewhat mature 13 year old the topics that this book brings up I think will always just be a little sad, and I like it when a book challenges a reader to think about what the characters are saying this does it perfectly
