Watersnakes has such an interesting premise. For me, the story had moments where that potential really came through, but overall, I think it just missed the mark. That being said, the artwork is amazing, and it's worth picking up for that alone.

What did I just read... ?! Seriously why is this girl so obsessed with the other girl's teeth?

January 2022

I don’t know what the heck really happened in this book! I don’t think, you are supposed to make sense of the story. It’s like a bizarre dream which is downright creepy. But funnily enough, I still enjoyed it. Go figure!

I don't know if it's an issue with translation but I really disliked the dialog and narration in this collection. I disliked it so much that I stopped reading the text after a while, and just pretended this was a wordless story.

As a wordless graphic novel, this would have been a five star book.

Yes, the art is gorgeous, but also I think Sandoval tells so much of the story with his images and facial grammar that his work doesn't need the text, and its absence would add to the surreal atmosphere of this book.

Tony Sandoval demonstrates mastery in visual storytelling in his art, layouts, pacing, and watercolor. The majority of the creepy, mysterious mood of the book, especially in the opening chapter is especially a testament to this. Story-wise, though, I didn't love this. It was a find short story, reading like a a trippy dream/nightmare, but it felt a bit sparse.

I liked it! I think I would have loved it if the story was more flushed out

The art is gorgeous, but the story hovers somewhere in the realm of a dream that doesn't make any sense. There's some body horror and teeth falling out here, so would not recommend to people for whom those would be issues.
