Violence: Various murders, and near-deaths. Lots of danger. Fae dissect and eat people.

In one scene Wendell goes on a murderous rampage, similar to what he did last book. This includes brief descriptions of carving the heart out of the enemies.

Statue made of frozen toes and fingers. Skulls. Injuries, Poisoning. Romance: mention of married man who falls in love with a faerie woman, then after a few months goes back to his wife broken after the faerie gets bored of him. Wendell’s male relative has a husband, mentioned a few times.

Emily decides to take their relationship further. In one scene they’re in a tent overnight,

they start kissing and she asks him to get undressed, nothing else shown. In the morning they’re shown getting dressed.

She later accepts Wendell’s proposal.

Other: mentions of Rose’s tattoos on his arm and speculations as to where they end. Emily later discovers they end at his elbows

I absolutely adore this series. Wendell and Emily are such lovable characters, and their dynamic is so entertaining to watch. I think it’s a testament to Heather Fawcett’s writing style—and the way she has managed to bring these characters to life—that I am able to look past the fact his name is WENDELL BAMBLEBY. The faerie folklore and little tidbits of information Emily sprinkles into her journal are such a joy to read. The idea of having ribbons to guide your way back, the search for the missing professors, and Wendell’s door are all so interesting. I loved how everything tied together in the end, and I can’t wait to see what the next book has in store. I really hope we continue to see Ariadne and Shadow in this series, because I think their addition to the story has helped Emily grow as a character and evolve in a way that is truly magnificent to watch unfold.

While I loved the narrator, I think this series is best consumed in physical or ebook format—though Wendell’s POV in this installment was a real treat to hear.

  " Do you know? Rose asked me why I was not more surprised by your feat. He does not understand you as I do, Em, but as you seem to consider him a friend now, I told him the truth: in order to be surprised, I could not have known already that you are capable of anything. " 

  Once again I finish this book at the early hours of the morning, but I don't regret it. THIS is How you write a series. I dont think i've read world building so beautiful. I've mentioned it before , but I love LOVE the way the Folk are potrayed in this book. How they all have the common arrogance and cockiness but extremely different in their handling. Wendell and Poe and the Faun are similar, but also vastly different in personality and methods. I was worried when Wendell was revealed to be a Fae , concerned that this story would lead down the dark romance path of emotional manipulation. Instead , Fawcett crafted an immaculate character in Emily Wilde that she never felt like she lost herself to Wendell nor was he secretly playing the long game. I loved this book even more than the first and I'm incredibly excited for book 3 coming out this year!
