Silent Child was a really good read even though I found every "twist" to be obvious and transparent. I enjoyed the way the story was told and I liked that the characters were not very lovable. There are times when you feel a lot of sympathy for Aiden and Emma and other times when I just wanted to yell at Emma. I felt many mixed emotions but I was glad that things turned out okay in the end. I really enjoy Denzil's style of writing and I decided to read this book because I recently read Poison Orchids which I loved.

Chilling and Frustrating

This was just a read I picked up randomly. I am very glad I did.
This is about a young nothing ripped from her son by a flood. She tries to regain her life but right when she thinks she's making a new life of her own, her son shows up and rocks the world she and her husband have built. He has been in captivity but has become mute. The longer he doesn't speak, the longer tensions build between not just the characters but within you the reader as well.

The story was very suspenseful but there are a few questions I have that the book never covered.

Just like that show that only lasted a season on ABC. What was it? The Family? Just in the boy goes missing assumed dead then reappears part, from there it differs. I honestly thought I knew how it was going to end but it was a complete surprise. Looking back I totally should've seen the signs and I'm pissed I missed it. Well written novel...I can't wait to see what else Sarah Denzil has in store!

I have this marked as wanting to read, but I’m not so sure I can. My own baby boy’s name is Aiden & it’s always a huge fear that something could happen to my kiddo. I just don’t know that I can handle this

This book was a typical thriller- it was an easy enough read that kept you going until the end to either confirm what you suspected for some time or to surprise you in the end. I found there were enough points of foreshadowing throughout the story that the ending wasn’t much of a surprise. In the last few chapters though I found there was a bit too much going on.

I thought the concept of how we all have masks was intriguing, especially as Emma realizes this throughout the narrative.

Was rather creepy, but also fairly transparent. Given the small # of characters in the book, was pretty easy to deduce who was going to pop up as the bad guy.

What I Liked
Denzil has a style of writing that is easy to fall head-first into. I liked Emma Price as a character. What is fascinating to me is that Silent Child is about a young man that comes back after nearly a decade of being missing... but the story surrounds that if his mother. And that works.

What I Didn't Like
The bad guys are easy to guess. All of them. The mystery is just a little too obvious and easy-to-solve, and it sure makes me wonder how law enforcement never got this one before the novel began.
