I really enjoyed this story, such a wonderful story about rivals, forgiveness and oppression. I found the author writing easy to read and to imagine.

At one point I thought that this needed more books because it was quite slow but I didn't mind it. And yes the ending was quick and everything, maybe I would have wanted a bit more details but I did really like this book !

I would say 4,5/5 or maybe a 4/5

"Theirs was not a world of weights and scales, but of blood and dust and conquest."

It was nice to see the story come together and complete. The blood magic Eva has was much more gruesome and violent in this book and I didn't really care for that. I liked seeing her come to control her Khimaer magic though.

2.5 rounded up to 3. I thought I’d end up rating this book 4 or 5 stars, but sadly, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book. The pacing really threw me off and I felt as though the story would have benefitted from the book being longer.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with this book. I really loved the first book in the duology but this one seemed to move at an almost glacial pace. The first 2/3 of the book were exceptionally slow and dragged-out and the final 1/3 was almost too quick and felt really rushed.
I did appreciate how Joy made Eva's moral grapple with her power so prominent as that battle is exceptionally realistic and relatable.
My favourite character across the duology would have to be Isadore. Her perspective is so refreshing and I love her personality and hunger for power.
Overall, A Queen of Gilded Horns is a relatively disappointing read and I continue my search for a duology where the second book is not worse than the first.
