“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
If you haven't heard this story in a sermon, have you even gone to church?
The writing itself is 3 stars. It's obviously a good story, but there was no establishment of who the 5 guys were, no background, etc. It feels like there's an assumption you already know the story and she's just filling in the details.
Overall, an inspiring and encouraging testimony of God's grace and sovereignty through some crazy and tragic circumstances. To God be the glory.

Please read!! All I can say after reading this book is praise and glory to God! I am thankful to have read this story of five men and their families' faithfulness to the Lord. Elisabeth Elliot weaved together a beautiful story from start to finish and I was CRYING after reading the epilogues!!

Incredible story of the power of God! I’ve heard of the story before so it was great to finally hear the context and full account.

Moderate: Murder
Minor: Medical content, Violence, and Grief
I can see where some people might feel like the way they tried to minister to the people was offensive and just trying to turn them into 1st world people, I’m not sure what I would call that. The notes in the epilogue also communicate how they called the people by the wrong names and have corrected that in later writings.zacharyhoytsummers's review

This biography skillfully weaves a story of bravery and boldness for Christ through the journal entries of five men. Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming and Ed McCully are perfect examples of sold-out Christians trying to do all they can for their Lord. Elisabeth Elliot’s peace that she experienced in the wake of her husband’s death is an encouragement to me, and, hopefully, to many other readers of this fantastic book.
A challenge for whoever reading this review:
When threatened with the possibility of death for the cause of Christ, will I be bold and willing to make that sacrifice? Besides, what will be given us is so much nicer than what we will ever experience in life.
