The Hard Tomorrow seemed really interesting. I just don't think I was in the right mindset to read this as I just found it sad and exhausting. First, The Illustrations are great and does justice to the story. Davis held nothing back with this story but honestly, I just hated everyone and definitely didn't like how it ended. Had I been in a different mindset this may have hit me more emotionally but I just did not care for it.

Overall, not for me right now

This did not feel finished. The author spends 90% of the novel building conflicts between the characters which are revealed to one another over the course of a single day, and then, once the conflicts are out in the open, no one attempts to resolve anything.
Spoiler It's just nine months later and the main character has a baby (but still no house, and who knows about a job or friends or an activist community), because babies fix everything I guess?

Love the art. I didn’t know what to make of the ending! But I appreciate the honesty.

This book touches on many interesting themes but adds little, if anything, to the conversation. A lot of effort with little pay off. Writing about radical politics doesn't automatically make your book radical.

Plus there's some annoying gatekeeping in the protest scenes. Window smashers are presented as young idiots just trying to stir shit up. Weird to demonize that since stirring shit up is kinda the whole point of protesting. Asking nicely to be treated like a human has never achieved anything.

The one thing about this book that did resonate with me is the desire to be a parent and raise a child while also being painfully aware of how oppressive and terrifying this world is.
