Not a fan of Alex Volkov, or the things he does. As a reader it seems we need to accept these very questionable actions and still root for Alex and Ava, but I couldn’t forget about them. I did like that he really had to work to win her back, and this over a longer time period.

It was entertaining, but it was also very unsurprising and corny. Some plot points I felt weren’t fully explored so it wasn’t as satisfying a story as it could’ve been. Also I had trouble taking Alex seriously… -same goes for both of their trauma/issues.

I liked Alex in the beginning. He was broody, dark and mysterious.  I read dark romances, this isn't even dark compared to some stuff I've read. I usually want the villain to get the girl but I ended up really disliking Alex by the end of the book.
Honestly I was rooting that he wouldn't get Ava... and then he stalks her for like.... 6 months-ish? And then sings in front of a crowd and suddenly she wants to take him back? Blech.
I enjoyed the banter and dialog. I also enjoyed Ava's character development and what she was able to face down and overcome. Ava was honestly what kept me reading.

There were times that I felt the plot wasn't very believable or the characters actions made me raise an eyebrow in disbelief. Also there was a certain point in the book where it was very obvious (to me at least) what the upcoming 'twist' was and where this whole thing was headed.

Some parts are it were solid, others were a little too predictable for me. (Did appreciate that this whole relationship was over a fairly long time period than just a couple weeks, like some other books.)
It seemed like it was almost a mafia book, but with no mafia.

Wow. A rollercoaster of emotions I went through reading this book. Not a single boring chapter. My jaw was dropping constantly. Alex and Ava were very well written. Alex is truly a morally grey character. I enjoyed their scenes together. I felt every emotion that was written. The plot-twists were plot-twisting!!

First of all, I was very entertained by this book and had a good time reading it. However, that doesn't mean that it's particularly good.

What makes me go 'meh' the most is the character Alex.
For a so called 'genius' he really makes some dumb ass decisions throughout the book. Like oh noo who could've expected that Ava would get drawn into this? Yea.

The spicy scenes are good in my opinion, as they are rough but 100% consensual. Some other things don't reflect that consent though,
as he straight up turns into a stalker to get her forgiveness in the end. He doesn't take a no for an answer and takes every chance of getting away from him away from her.

I usually like the grumpy x sunshine trope and yea, the posessiveness is kinda hot but
not taking a no for an answer and turning into a stalker...?
...Nah.
Also... Ana Huang said in an interview that she likes 'morally grey characters' like Alex. And I get it. But yoo that might be... a bit much...?
He seeks justice himself and violently kills two people in the process and then turns the damn house to ashes to hide it all (Men would do anything instead of going to therapy lmao). And Ava just kind of... ignores that and is only hurt because she thinks his feelings for her are a lie. Everything else is just kind of overlooked.

The girl friend group are likeble though, as is her brother Josh. The plot was thrilling, though a little bit predictable. I'd say it's an easy read, and, as I said, still entertaining. Maybe a good entry into darker romance.
I will keep reading the series and I'm looking forward to the other characters, couples and tropes.

Conflicting because I did read this fast and was Lowkey excited but it also felt like being on Wattpad reading fanfics! It was fun tho! I wanted something fun and light and this was it! Alex is a menace throughout the entire thing (deregatory)!
