I really enjoyed this! Keiko is such a delightful character who's 100% on the autism spectrum no matter how you look at it. I mean, the theme wrapped around society expectations and conformity.
I do wish the side characters were used to explore different facets on the theme instead every single of one them being cogs of the machine (which is probably the point but I would've loved more exploration beside our incel Shiraha). I don't know how to feel exactly about the ending but it works!

"Convenience Store Woman," a Japanese novella, explores conformity, sexism, heteronormativity and capitalism with a spare style. Keiko Furukura, 36, understands from an early age that she's not normal, but her desire to fit in — to be what she calls a "useful tool" — does not abate. She finds a part-time job in a minimart that provides her with an employee handbook, which becomes her manual for how to live. Readers may find themselves wishing for Keiko to find love or to get a full-time job, then wondering if that's really what's best for her or just what they've been conditioned to expect.

Social commentary that’s digestible cause it’s deadpan funny. Which really brings out how absurd everything is.
(The incel character is the cherry on top for satire
