DNF. I don't think it was bad, I just could not get into it at all.

We have issues here. We have a number of issues that must be addressed NOW because I'm sitting her fuming at this disappointment of a book and I'm going to explode at someone and they are going to be upset and send me to a asylum.

So I'll explode at you guys instead.

This is my second Melissa de la Cruz book. I read Blue Bloods and was consequently so horrified by its inconsistencies that I swore off all her books from then on.

Alas, I was idiot and decided to give Frozen a chance, despite my misgivings. Whelp, remind me to trust my gut instincts.

Problems:

==> There are sentences with all capitals: This, to me, is one of the most unprofessional things an author can do. You want to mimic shouting, say that they shouted. You want to mimic anger, frustration, panic, whatever do it in another way that does not have you writing in all capitals. Show it in the actions, in their words, body gestures etc... Do not use entire sentences in all capitals.

==>Wes: He's possibly one of the stupidest characters I've come across. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten his entire crew killed earlier. I think that once Darren has tried to kill members of the crew and its guests and YOU, he's not your friend anymore. He's not part of the crew, you are completely entitled to throw his douchebag ass overboard.

==>Romance is too fast, and it turned Nat into a whiny and dramatic girl who needs to get her shit together. She was fine in the beginning, but as the story progressed she just got worse and worse with sorting her priorities straight. Not to mention everyone is paired up, and it's like shoving it down out throats.

==> Story declined as the book went on. It's the same with Blue Bloods. The writing got worse, the plot became more and more random, the descriptions lacked impact, dialogue repetitive, overall, it's like the author gave up half way through.

==>World-building: The concept is great. Ice age has come again, and society is falling to pieces with the rich at the top and the poor starving at the bottom. But there is too much going on. There is a incredible amount of mythical creatures that we don't need, and it's like they are popping up with no apprant reason. Nat starts out as a Marked like a wizard, then she turns into this dragon rider. There are hobbits and magical healers and dragons and pirates and so many others that it's painful to keep track of. And Wes can make protection spells now, even though he's human?

==>Clumsy writing, awkward dialogue.

I was really iffy starting this story. Between the horrible reviews and thinking that it was a typical dystopia novel, I wasn't sure I wanted to put the effort into giving it a chance. I'm so glad I did. I greatly enjoyed the story. It was different and took a turn I didn't expect. I adored Nat and Wes. Their past is full of rage, heartbreak, and utter devastation. They both believe they are monsters in different ways. While, in a way Nat is a monster, she truly isn't. She does what she has to do for the good of those she loves. I love the twist with the Wailer in the toxic ocean. I thought it was really cool. And that ending had me in tears! I so hope Wes and Nat find each other again.

This is a good book, but the pacing is slow. Also, the ages the characters are supposed to be is wholly unbelievable. 12 and 13 and 14 year olds in a military unit? In a renegade squad running missions headed by a 16 year old whose considered a veteran? Just imagine the characters are 10 years older. It was easier to believe/enjoy the story that way.

I'd argue this is a love story for the girl who thoroughly enjoys fantasy/sci-fi.

I enjoyed the structure and writing style, even if the pacing is a bit slow. The descriptive language is beautiful and just enough without being overdone. I could clearly picture everything. I love when authors make that so simple.

Frozen is a new look at what our world may come to if human consumption and trash get out of control. With the sun blocked from the sky, the land has become a frozen wasteland. Heat and real food are lucury commodities, and strange traits have begun to show up in people. Nat is one of these people, with a strange voice in her head she is capable of destroying things, but she can't really control it. She longs to escape the city and head for the Blue. A legendary place where the sun shines, its warm, and food is actually grown.

She books a trip with a runner named Ryan and off the go in search of a place most think doesn't exist. They run into amazing and dangerous things along the way, including slavers, pirates, and magical and strange beings. It was an exciting ride from page one. While mostly an adventure style story, there's a bit of romance thrown in here and there that threads the the story helping to hold the characters together and make them very real personalities. With a very surprise ending that leaves you wishing book two was already in your hands, I think Melissa de la Cruz has another hit series on her hands.

I wasn't really sure what to think of this book going in, but I ended up enjoying it. There is a lot of information to get through in the first couple of chapters, but hang in there, it gets better.

It was easy going from Nat and Wes’s POV. I enjoyed both of their voices. Although it's clear that they both like each other neither really lets much happen so there isn't much romance to FROZEN.

I was not crazy about the ending as I wanted them to stick together, but I now get to look forward to their reunion hopefully.
