Besties, what the fuck was this???????? My jaw is on the floor for all the wrong reasons.

This book is the definition of trigger warnings, PLEASE do your research before even reading these reviews. To list a few: (sexual assault, sexual harrassment, public humiliation, revenge porn, sexual violence, drugging, minor exploitation, misogyny, etc.) I’m not even particularly triggered by these subjects, yet I was very uncomfortable, disgusted and shocked.

Some pretense - this is my first kindle romance and first real smutty read since being 13 on Wattpad. Frankly, this should’ve been (and stayed) on Wattpad; Every single character was painfully one dimensional and predictable: the evil, gold-digging stepmom; the whiny, jealous stepsister; the absent, perverted, rich, misogynistic father and the mean girls at school. I wish the characters were complex and didn’t play into so many stereotypes. I know we’re all here primarily for the smut, so the characters don’t need to be fully fleshed out, but it really would’ve helped. On that note, I have no words to fully describe how awful the writing and dialogue is. Because of this, I’m going to list some of my ‘favorite’ quotes to help you better understand what I mean:

“Hey, Little Red Ride Me From the Hood. Look at you, surrounded by three big, bad wolves.” (when i tell you i SCREAMED)

“Peyton releases a scream so high-pitched, I’m surprised windows aren’t breaking right now. “You can’t be fucking serious, Kingston! What the hell kind of voodoo pussy is that bitch rocking?” (no words)

“Yeah, well, I’m not most girls.” (self explanatory)

“I push his arm off. “Pig.” He winks. “Oink, oink, baby.”” (yes, this is a published novel)

“Once we’re safely behind a locked door, Kingston turns on the Bluetooth speaker I have on my desk and presses buttons on his phone until “The Drug in Me is You” by Falling in Reverse starts playing.” (no surprise here that the love interest unironically listens to ronnie radke, the king of sexual assault)

It really does feel like a (fucked up) 15 year old girl updating chapters whenever she’s horny and deciding to write the worst scene you’ve ever read, somehow topping herself each time.

I really hate that this takes place in high school, too. It’s so sexualized and feels like every student is in a sex crazed orgy. It would’ve been so much easier and more believable to place them in a college setting at least.

Yes, I understand that this is a dark bully romance. I don’t think that includes/justifies literal sexual assault, sexual harrassment, public humiliation, revenge porn, sexual violence, drugging, minor exploitation, misogyny, etc. Plus, the bullying was just really over the top, especially from the love interest. I was expecting some insults and dislike between the two, but this was on an entire other plane. The fact that we’re supposed to just forget the awful things he did to her in the first half of the book, and be on the Kingston band wagon all of a sudden is unrealistic and gross. Doesn’t make sense that the main character Jasmine was down for this shit either, being treated the way she was, when she’s described as this independent fiery woman. But I guess you can get away with anything when you’re hot…

I feel like I’m being gaslit as fuck by these reviews, RAVING about the intoxicating romance and descriptive writing. Girlies, did we read the same book ? Obviously this book is fiction and everyone has the right to enjoy what they want in a book, but this book truly rubbed me the wrong way and is straight up poorly written/executed. I've read so much better on Wattpad. Justice for my girls on Wattpad to get their own novels since we're just giving handouts apparently.
