Sure cute and I loved Lucy! The town was great, but I really wanted to know more about how the magic worked (did humans know about the merpeople and vampires and gnomes?? Did everyone in their school know about magic??) and especially how the wish-that-went-wrong worked. Because I didn’t understand that most of the time. By the end I still wasn’t sure if it had worked as it was supposed to or not. And I get that we’re setting Ursula up for a sequel, but I wish there’d been something more there after the big fight.

I hope the editor helps the author really clarify things in the next book, because it really is a charming world she’s made. I just want to understand it!

This fun light fantasy with a merman (more shifter like) and witch (who really only does like one spell during the whole book and reads tea leaves and books about spells) was a get sucked in, second chance friends to lovers kind of vibe with a lot of character growth and development. I’ve already preordered the next (although I’m not excited about Ursula’s story being next because I was not ready to redeem her yet).

Thank you to goodreads and the publisher for sending me this book.

It was a very sweet, wholesome smalltown second chance romance. The characters were compelling and I loved the magical elements to the story. I wish there was a little bit more magic involved, but i could definitely see the possibility for this world to be expanded on for further books and would be interested in following those stories as well. Its not necessarily a spooky book but it was perfect for Halloween time. Very enjoyable read.

The Story:

This was the whimsical love I didn’t realize I needed. This book just hit at the right time for my moody reading heart. It left me with a happy sigh and a healthy dislike for Ursula’s selfishness. I love how family oriented Lucy’s support system is. I look forward to more from this world.

Cozy fantasy is absolutely my new favorite genre, and I think Witchful Thinking fits in that category perfectly. This book was so cute and I love that the magic isn't really hidden, but rather witches and mermaids and other magical beings are just living their lives in this town. The characters were diverse and complex, which I love to see especially in romance novels. I really hope we see more books sets in this universe because I loved so many of the side characters, and I want to just get cozy with a cup of tea and more magical romance.
