Who knew the line ‘’tell me how much you hate me’’ could be so romantic? The author did.

A fantastic story of love overcoming hate, of new generations quashing the ridiculous evil started by past generations and the overall story that sometimes the bad guys can be good and sometimes they are just plain evil.

This was a fantastically written story, set in Scotland telling the tale of two rival families. The main story focusses on Cam and Maeve and in dual POV tells their story as they are thrust together by their rival families taught to hate each other but slowly realising that they aren’t what’s wrong with their families and thus breaking down each others walls.

The author did a brilliant job of creating tension, frustration, lust, anger, romance. Every action, thought and emotion felt believable and had me championing the relationship and hoping they’d get their happy ever after.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Dark Enemies (McGowan Mafia Book 2)

By Effie Campbell

Review

We left off in book two, with Esther being dragged back to face her mother’s murderer and the families biggest enemy. Esther and Alec are able to take off and leave to live the life they want. This puts Maeve, Esthers younger sister, in the cross hairs and is forced to take her spot. However, there is a new deal in mind. Maeve will be forced to marry his son, Cameron. And despite not wanting to partake in anything that puts her in close proximity of the Thompson family after their father has put Maeve’s in a hospital bed in a coma. But, the Thompson family, has her other brother, and is sending pieces of him to her, to “encourage” the nuptuals between Cam and Maeve. She unwillinly does what is expected and is quickly whisked away to a private island owned by the Thompson family for her “honeymoon”. She quickly realizes that maybe there is more to Cameran than what meets the eye. She is forced to either sleep on the couch, or be stuck in the bed next to her worst enemy.

Will this arranged marriage work out in the end? Will the Thompson and McGowan families finally put the past behind them and move forward? Or will Maeve discover a HUGE secret that Cam’s father is hiding, and what will she do to stop what she knows is wrong? Is losing her husband, who she reluctantly fell in love with, worth the risk in the end to uncover the dirty secret?

This book was such a good follow up to the first one, Dark Escapes. I love that we are able to follow along with the families and see where it ends up going. This book also was a lot more action packed than the prior one, and left me with my mouth hanging open and compelte shock written on my face. I would recommend this one as well, this series is a for sure read and needs to be bumped up everyone’s TBR!!
