This is so stinking cute!! I love all of Sandhya Menon's books, but this might be my favorite. I'm so glad she told Sassy Sweetie's story!

Very sweet Indian culture spin on some young love tropes.

this was so cute!! i love that this is not only a diverse own-voices book, but also deals with fat-phobia and shaming and it deals with it perfectly in my opinion. in the beginning i really disliked sweetie’s mom, she was so inconsiderate and rude and controlling. she’s the whole reason sweetie has such a huge issue with her body image, and her dad just sits back and allows it basically. that i did not like—at all.

but the romance was so cute, both characters are dealing with something and helping each other grow into a better person during their one month of knowing each other. i almost wanted to have a problem with how insta-lovey it was, but they’re young and as the saying goes—young and in love. so i let it slide, i guess i just thought they were jumping into it too fast given ashish’s circumstances and sweetie’s reasoning.

overall it was a lighthearted read given the large discussions of fat shaming and phobia. i really love companion novels, i actually enjoyed this better than When Dimple Met Rishi!

4.5/5 Stars. I loved this book! Sweetie was such a relatable character, I truly wish I had come across her in high school or undergrad. It means so much to see fat girl representation, and it is even better that it was done through such a sweet and charming story of romance and self-confidence. This is a book that definitely has potential to climb up to the full 5 stars after a second read in the future!!

I dont think i can express just how much I would have loved having this book when I was a teenager. A fat angsty teenager, with my Ami telling me constantly to lose weight. This book is just everything. Even while the romance part is a bit over the top, it is cute, it is dreamy and isnt that everything we need as teens? I read it in a day. It was delightful, honestly.

The 2nd book in the [b:When Dimple Met Rishi|28458598|When Dimple Met Rishi (Dimple and Rishi, #1)|Sandhya Menon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1475687488l/28458598._SX50_.jpg|48593860] series focuses on Rishi's younger brother Ashish, he's getting over his break up with Celia, who he was dating in the first book. He decides to let his parents set him up, and that's when Sweetie walks into his life. This was a great body positive YA novel featuring diverse characters. Sweetie and Ashish hit it off right from the start, though they are not without their issues as Sweetie's mom forbids their dating because she's worried Sweetie will get hurt. It was fun to revisit the world of Dimple and Rishi, who pop in once, and get to know other characters. I'm looking forward to the next book [b:10 Things I Hate About Pinky|46216773|10 Things I Hate About Pinky (Dimple and Rishi, #3)|Sandhya Menon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1571935198l/46216773._SY75_.jpg|71187474]. Pinky and Samir are important secondary characters in this one, and I think this book does some nice preliminary work on their story. The romance here does get a little cheesy, especially towards the end, but I think author Sandhya Menon does a nice job of capturing the excitement and romance of first loves.

i personally loved that the protagonist was plus sized, however, found some of the topic repetitive. Maybe it experienced some of the sophomore slump but overall just gasped like i did while reading When Dimple Met Rishi.

but damn if this don't make you want to find yourself a Patel brother lol!
