I did like it better than the last one. Dexter is seen on one of his special nights out so we get to focus a lot on him and his hobby and for once Deborah's case is just a side plot.
The story is much more believable than in the last two books, Dexter does not tag along to do Deborah's job.
Instead we are back to why I liked the series in the first place. It's again about the inner monologue of a killer, finding ways to justify his hobby.

I still like Jeff Lindsay's style of writing, but it does get hard to ignore the blatant sexism with which Astor and Rita are written. Astor suddenly becomes vain and shallow and Rita turns into a passive aggressive wine drinker. On top of that it is outright painful to read how Dexter - who is supposed to be excellent at pretending to be the perfectly charming gentleman - is treating his wife, ignoring her unless she fails to feed him homecooked meals.

So while much better than "Dexter is Delicious", I can only give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
