This is one of those books I wish everyone read — most especially U.S. teens and young adults who are trying to make sense of their lives.

I think the most powerful essays were “The Transformation of Silence Into Language and Action,” “Man Child,” “An Interview,” “The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House,” “The Uses of Anger,” “Learning from the 60s,” and “Eye to Eye.”

Though I listened to the audiobook, I think this book is ideally read on the page. I had to rewind many times to fully digest ideas, and I would’ve liked to underline as I read.

Are you trying to learn more about queer people? Either as a queer person or cis/het? Are you trying to understand intersectionality of race and sexuality? Audre Lorde’s collection of work is the perfect portfolio to introduce you to a facet of those topics.  Not only is this work still prevalent today it sticks with you well after you have read it. Short form essays, letters, and speeches hook you in with Lorde’s wit and lovely imagery. I plan on reading the rest of her work. A book everyone should have on their shelf.
