Interesting take on the possession narrative. Tremblay is a talented writer who knows how to write complicated characters who are just as complex as the story needs them to be. This story keeps your attention all the way to the final chapters which bring in to play some unexpected questions about what really happened to the Barrett family. It's pretty brilliant, the twist, but is also works because it is a satisfying way to provide the reader with several believable possibilities. A Head Full of Ghosts lives up to its title and is certainly very frightening in spots in that skin crawling way readers of horror sometimes crave. These scenes are our warm and fuzzies when it comes to reading books that are ultimately pretty darn bleak!

There were some creepy parts.... I'm not sure I liked the ending though.

Super interesting writing style and I'm not sure i LOVED it especially towards the end but it was so unique that i feel like i want to recommend it to people. The perspective from the young child was so accurate it kind of freaked me out loll and all the extra details just made it super Meta or something it was very fun. It kind of gave me both AHS Ragnarok plus a more avant-garde film vibe lol

This book truly terrified me. I had to stop reading it at night! Loved the twist at the end!

i found this book to be incredibly underwhelming. it was a fast read, but one that felt disjointed.

while there were horror elements, i found this book to be more sad that scary. i also likely did not appreciate all the horror references as someone who is not a horror fan.

the idea of a mentally ill girl in a family bounded by religion (or at least a father bounded by religion and forcing it on his family) was just sad to me. maybe it was my religious trauma and 9 years of catholic school, but the religious aspect of the book was cliche and elementary. i am also interested in psychology, so i found this part to be especially upsetting that marjorie’s mental illness was being exploited for television. maybe that was the point, i’m not sure. i felt bad for marjorie and enjoyed the sisterly relationship between her and merry.

overall, i found this book to be incredibly bleak and nothing knew. even the “twist” was not surprising given the father’s tendencies & the sister’s relationship. i also found the revelation of the twist to be underwhelming. just mentioning it in the blog post???? i don’t know i have a lot of feelings about this book and not many of them positive.

Meh. Just did not come together for me, and nothing was especially fun or believable or even spooky. Felt a little under-baked, though it was at least a quick/easy read.
