This book felt like it was trying to hard to not try too hard. It was enjoyable if you relaxed into it, but nothing was any sort of revelation. I picked this up on recommendation, and was disappointed. However crime is not my typical genre, so perhaps you need to be a fan of the genre first.

My first Elmore Leonard novel, and foray back into reading fiction (really since High School). Get Shorty was perfectly paced, darkly humorous, and featured an amusing cheeky, glib, and cocky lead in Chili Palmer. Entertaining on the verge of pulp with no real substance, Get Shorty was an enjoyable read, but didn't do much to distinguish itself from others of its genre.

Ex mafia type gets interested in the movies, has some boring chat, does over a few pretty idiotic people, kind of gets the girl. Not exciting in any way. With the other books I've disliked off the list, I could at least understand why they might have made it. But this was just a yawn from start to finish. Disappointing.
