This was creepy in all the best sci-fi dystopia ways. It was a really deep character exploration of a robot - so lots of questioning humanity and autonomy. NSFW warning - lots of sex! But isn't that a crucial and integral part of being a human?

***This review is for the audiobook***
This is an amazing debut, wonderfully read by Jennifer Jill Araya. Well-written and engaging, Annie Bot is The Handmaid's Tale for the 21st century. There are so many themes in this book: the ethics of owning self-aware artificial intelligence, mis-matched power dynamics in relationships, misogyny and toxic masculinity, domestic abuse, and what constitutes freedom, identity, and autonomy. The novel at times feels a bit claustrophobic (most of it takes place within the confines of a NYC apartment), but maybe that was by design, to reflect how Annie herself feels. Although this is speculative fiction, it seems like the problems central to this book are indeed right around the corner. 4.5 stars.

This books GRIPPED me from page one! The perfect quick read to get out of a slump. I’ve been loving the “what if AI became sentient/truly a part of our physical lives” genre and this one hits such an intimate place because it’s about love.
But it’s definitely not a rom-com don’t get it twisted! Even if there’s so much grey area and makes you truly question the definition of humanity. I found myself empathizing with Annie’s feelings and curiosities and I’m not even a robot.
Only reason it’s not 5⭐️ is because the build was so good that the ending was a little too rushed.
