In theory, it's a great idea to want to publish an anthology all about badass girls from different time periods, especially if you make it diverse and don't just write about white straight girls, but like ... most of these authors are white. One of them even uses the N-word in her story. Another one kills off the only Black character in her story. Can we not.

I did like some of the stories, especially "Pearls" by Beth Revis, "The Legendary Garrett Girls" by Y.S Lee, and "City of Angels" by Lindsay Smith (though that story does have a dark-skinned main character, which you don't even realise until almost the end). I also learnt a few things about the history of the US and about some famous American people, and I did like that!

But please, Spotswood, consider this next time: Let more Ownvoices authors write about their cultures, yeah?
