This book really kept me guessing and I loved how it ended up I really didn't see it coming but it all clicks together so nicely. The characters are interesting and the writing style is solid. The plot really scratched an itch for me as it was like if the books infinite by Jeremey Robinson and the 22 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle had a child and the genetics went ham and all the flaws of those two books were selected out. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars for me is that I had to grow to appreciate the writing style and was a little thrown off in the early story and had to get hooked by the middle.

This book dragged for about 60% and then it started to get interesting. I really liked the ending too. The premise of this book is super interesting and I think the last 25% of the book lived up to it, but the rest was repetitive for me. Overall I enjoyed it, just not as much as I was hoping to.

This book has a high degree of difficulty - why should the reader care about what happens to a character when we know they're just going to show up again in the next chapter? - and it mostly nails it. I found it really moving, and it hit that sweet spot for me on the line between genre and literary fiction.

In the beginning two thirds, it's a meditation on what it means to be ourselves. How much are we products of our environment and pasts, and do we have some essential quality that defines us independently of that? How can we be the same person in different times and places? I adored this. I loved the way the characters were written, how they continued to be themselves even when they were different people.

In the last third, it becomes a mystery that can be solved, and I think I found that less moving. I don't think I needed an answer, and I don't think having an answer made the preceding pages any more meaningful. I liked the unknown, the numinous quality, though I appreciate that it probably did need to have an answer for narrative purposes.

This was amazing, couldn’t put it down. I honestly didn’t see where this was going until it was already there, and now I can’t figure out how I didn’t put it all together. 5 stars

Definitely for fans of Haig's Midnight Library and Schwab's Invisible Life of Addie LaRue! I enjoyed how their relationship evolves and falls apart from both pov. Sad, but in a heartwarming way.
