“what quantity of truth resides within a story’s details?”
so i read this book a few years ago and decided to re-read it after watching the hulu series with my partner who was continually asking me how events went in the book and of course i could not remember. i’m here to say that series is almost identical to the book!
i enjoyed my re-read. i think Schaitkin wrote this novel to say something about wealth and privilege and the assumptions we make about others based on race and class. how so many white people want to feel distinguished from other white people, want to be perceived as “the good white person.” the author writes so poignantly about the inner workings of humanity, the ways in which we are terrible beings, our darkest thoughts brought to life
i’m really curious what others think about this novel!
Moderate: Homophobia and Stalking
