Beyond That, the Sea by Laura Spence-Ash

❤️Oh my heart, how I loved this book. ❤️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿1940 London brings the looming threat of bombs and the heart wrenching decision for Millie and Reginald to send their 11 year old daughter Beatrix to America to stay with an unknown family in hopes of keeping her safe during the war.

🇺🇸Nancy and Ethan Gregory, along with their sons William and Gerald, take Beatrix in for what ends up being 5 life changing years for everyone. Unaccustomed to their affluent lifestyle and summers in Maine, she slowly becomes a part of their incredible family, while simultaneously missing her own and feeling torn knowing this new family is one she will someday have to leave.

🚢 ✈️Over three decades are shared through each character’s alternating point of view, and the pain, loss, love, and fear and joy is palpable on every page. I was swept up in Bea’s life as she navigated the two worlds that loved, raised and shaped her. Stunning and unforgettable, this novel just secured a spot as a 2023 favorite read and one I wish I could experience for the first time again and again. I’m jealous of those who will get to do just that.

🦞🌽🎂🍧Pair with lobster, corn on the cob, and chocolate cake with peppermint ice cream for the most deliciously good read.
