I absolutely LOVED this book. I couldn’t put it down. It was so good. It was an absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful story and I absolutely loved it.

The author did a lot of research about the Organ Trail and the people she based her characters on.

“Put your energy into rising above the things you can’t change, Naomi. Keep your mind right. And everything will work out for the best.”

Amy Harmon never ever let’s me down. She throws her heart and soul into her books, and you can not help but feel it as the reader. This was such a beautiful, emotional and raw story of a journey across the Oregon Trail. It’s a historical story about travel, family, love, hardship, pain, and the ugly parts of humanity. It brings light to so many different things of history between different races and cultures. I learned a ton, as usual with this author. You can tell this one was very dear to her heart. It will definitely stick with me.

If you’re looking for a good cry, then this book is for you. This was such a heartbreaking story, but it was also full of love, perseverance, and hope. This book is the type that will stick with you for years to come. Naomi and John’s story will always hold a special place in my heart. They suffered unimaginable loss and fought their way back to each other.
The pacing of this book was perfect. I never felt the need to skip over any “slow” parts. Nothing in this book was sugarcoated. It was dark and violent at times, showing how deeply evil humans can be. It also showed how kind and loving humans can be. This was my first Amy Harmon book, and it won’t be my last.

** This book does contain non-descriptive open door scenes.

This is my second read of this book and it hit even harder than the first. There’s just something so atmospheric and romantic about the story that I keep coming back to. Five stars from me always!

Wow what a beautiful story! An easy five stars, I loved every moment that I spent in this story! Great historical fiction of the journey west. Picture Oregon trail meets the show 1883! Loved it so much that I wanted more!
