A good simple fast paced short story. The world building is done beautifully and the exploration of Arabic spirits and mythology is fascinating. The themes of the novel are balanced really well, from feminism to the bureaucracy we’d encounter in even the most magical of places.

This novella was the first I'd heard of this author. This was suggested for one of my book groups. I rejected it because it seemed to be horror (and it is definitely not horror). And then the followup book won the Nebula (and I rejected this because I was part 3 of a series - but clearly it was time to read the series.

This one is clearly in keeping with the other two works, both the good and the bad. The world building is pretty good, but I'm not convinced I like the world. It is well written but for me overly descriptive, overly pretty. There are side-characters in this one that are intriguing, but the main situation is only okay.

This has the feel like being in the shorter works is overly restrictive. I hope so, since I'm going to read the longer work, hopefully soon.

This is, in yet another pattern, really really good. Definitely liking this author's approaches to storytelling, and this was very well put together.
